Hillside Centre Go(es) Green

Hillside Shopping Centre officially received their GO GREEN certification from BOMA (Buildings, Operations, Management Association). Hillside Centre is the first shopping centre in Victoria, BC to receive the GO GREEN certification.

To receive certification there are ten basic requirements: energy use, water use, recycling, construction waste recycling, use of hazardous materials, material selection, ozone depleting substances awareness, indoor air quality, HVAC maintenance and tenant communications.

Certification is a complicated process however in the end it reflects Hillside Centre’s commitment to a more environmentally friendly community.

The BOMA GO GREEN program addresses five categories of environmental responsibility in building management and operation:

1. Resource Consumption
2. Waste Reduction & Recycling
3. Building Materials
4. Interior Environment
5. Tenant Awareness

Long ago Hillside Centre saw the need to reduce energy consumption, while at the same time providing an environmentally friendly atmosphere not only for you, the tenants, but also for our patrons shopping in the Centre. This has been accomplished by the implementation of several programs involving all aspects of the building systems and the day-to-day operation of the Centre.

Hillside Centre is honoured to receive this recognition for it efforts and will continue to embrace the necessary changes required to improve the environment.
